Try an experiment in dialing down the fight or flight overload of anxiety, looking at smiling faces. Tell your brainstem that you’re not in danger and the other apes accept and protect you.

Pretend that you have a deep craving to smoke and go outside for a few minutes. Repeat throughout the day. Tip: don’t actually smoke. Tip: don’t stand near smokers. Breathe deeply. Be where you’re at.

For a more modern feel in your meditation, why not focus on a clean and empty motel room? Listen to highway sounds or air conditioner hum and empty your mind.
